Background of the Study

Lifelong learning and continuous professional development are essential components of nursing practice, ensuring that nurses remain competent and up-to-date with advancements in healthcare. Positive attitudes towards ongoing education can lead to improved patient care and career satisfaction. In Kebbi State, Nigeria, evaluating nurses' attitudes towards lifelong learning can provide insights into the effectiveness of current professional development initiatives and identify areas for improvement.

Statement of the Problem

While the importance of lifelong learning in nursing is well-established, there is limited information on the attitudes of nurses in Kebbi State towards continuous education and professional development. Understanding these attitudes is crucial for designing effective educational programs and policies that encourage ongoing learning among nurses.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the attitudes of nurses in Kebbi State towards lifelong learning and professional development.

2. To identify factors that influence nurses' attitudes towards continuous education.

3. To explore barriers to participation in professional development activities among nurses.

Research Questions

1. What are the prevailing attitudes of nurses in Kebbi State towards lifelong learning and professional development?

2. What factors influence these attitudes?

3. What barriers do nurses face in engaging with professional development activities?

Research Hypotheses

1. Nurses in Kebbi State have a positive attitude towards lifelong learning and recognize its importance in professional practice.

2. Factors such as access to resources, institutional support, and personal motivation significantly influence nurses' attitudes towards continuous education.

3. Barriers such as time constraints, financial limitations, and lack of opportunities hinder nurses' participation in professional development activities.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will involve registered nurses working in various healthcare settings across Kebbi State. Data will be collected through structured questionnaires and focus group discussions. Limitations may include potential response biases and the generalizability of findings to other regions.
